House Votes to Prevent Fraudulent Health Insurance Subsidy Payments

Washington, Sep 13, 2013 -

Earlier this summer, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services released hundreds of pages of regulations to implement the 2010 health care law. Included in the newly released regulations was an announcement that the federal government would not verify that individuals seeking subsidies to purchase health insurance through the law’s exchanges are qualified to receive such assistance. This week, the House passed H.R. 2775, the No Subsidies Without Verification Act, which would require that accurate verification systems be in place before subsidies are disbursed.  I supported this legislation in order to ensure that only those individuals who are actually eligible to receive assistance do so and prevent fraud and abuse of taxpayer dollars.
