Statement from Rep. Gary Miller on the Commemoration of Memorial Day

Rancho Cucamonga, May 27, 2013 -

This morning, Rep. Gary Miller (CA-31) issued the following statement on the observation of Memorial Day:

“Each Memorial Day that passes reminds us that the freedoms we enjoy and take for granted on a daily basis comes at a great and painful cost. Since the founding of our nation, over one million men and women have made the ultimate sacrifice. Their service and love of country cannot and will not be forgotten.

By defending our country from threats at home and overseas, our nation's military continually secures our rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. On this solemn day, I join all of my constituents in honoring and extending our unending gratitude to those who have who have given their lives so that we can remain a free and prosperous nation.

As we take time today to honor those who have died while serving our country, we also reaffirm our commitment to America’s living veterans, who need our support now more than ever. A recent report showed that an unprecedented 45 percent of the 1.6 million veterans who served in Iraq and Afghanistan are now seeking assistance for service-related injuries. George Washington once remarked that history will judge us on how we treat our veterans, and with that in mind, I hope you will all join me in supporting the Wounded Warrior Project, http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org, and other organizations that provide support and assistance to our nation’s veterans.”
